San Francisco
After arriving at my hostel, I treated myself to a trip to the cinema. I took in a film, had some popcorn and enjoyed the show. I rarely go as it is, so this really was a treat and I have to say I enjoyed immersing myself.
I’m already sad writing this post, and all I’ve written so far is the title. I’ve very much enjoyed re-living the moments by typing up this trip, and I the feelings I had on that last day are resurfacing as I type this up
The penultimate date. Tomorrow I will be riding over that bridge to downtown San Francisco. Sigh – this will soon be over. However another great day lay ahead
I loved today’s ride! I was still reaping the rewards from the Leggett hills. The day was beautiful. How can you NOT be happy when you wake up to views like this? Needless to say, I started off the day on a high and boy it continued. This was helped by the amazing sleep that I got too. The grass was soft (I didn’t have a ground mat so it all helped!) and there was no other sound apart from the ocean.
Phew. Today was going to be a short day. This just what I needed after all those hills. I knew I could take it easy. But then again, anything would seem easy after yesterday.
Today was an epic ride. An epic ride which will result in an epic blog post. So please bear with me. I did mention yesterday that today was going to be a big ride and so it turned out to be.
I was looking forward to riding through Eureka. There were apparently a good number of old houses that looked a little like those you may find in The Munsters or The Adams Family. The main one of these was to visit the Carson Mansion, a Victorian house in Old Town.
This picture sums up exactly how I felt this morning.
It was cold. It was damp. And confusingly enough it was California. I hadn’t slept well and I was also hungry, so this may have clouded my judgement but . . . I thought I left the wet in Washington, and the cold in . . . Europe. California was supposed to be warm. The OC, Baywatch, all the TV ads fail to tell you they are talking about Southern California. No one made this clear to me, or the rest of Britain, that not all of California is hot.
Wow. What an introduction to California today was. I think this had a bit of everything. Big town, Big hills (x2) and Big Trees.
This was a big day. It was the last full day that I would have in Oregon. Tomorrow I would be heading to California. I was quite looking forward to this because California has this gloss about it which we certainly get from TV. With this in mind there was a lot of hype.
