Vancouver to San Francisco Tour 2016 – A Cycle Tour by someone who’s never cycle toured before – Day 21 – Manchester State Beach, CA to Bodega Bay, CA

I loved today’s ride! I was still reaping the rewards from the Leggett hills. The day was beautiful. How can you NOT be happy when you wake up to views like this? Needless to say, I started off the day on a high and boy it continued. This was helped by the amazing sleep that I got too. The grass was soft (I didn’t have a ground mat so it all helped!) and there was no other sound apart from the ocean.

Vancouver to San Francisco Tour 2016 – A Cycle Tour by someone who’s never cycle toured before – Day 18 – Eureka KOA, CA – Burlington Camp Ground, CA

I was looking forward to riding through Eureka. There were apparently a good number of old houses that looked a little like those you may find in The Munsters or The Adams Family. The main one of these was to visit the Carson Mansion, a Victorian house in Old Town.

Vancouver to San Francisco Tour 2016 – A Cycle Tour by someone who’s never cycle toured before – Day 17 – Elk Prairie, CA – Eureka KOA, CA

This picture sums up exactly how I felt this morning.

It was cold. It was damp. And confusingly enough it was California. I hadn’t slept well and I was also hungry, so this may have clouded my judgement but . . .  I thought I left the wet in Washington, and the cold in . . . Europe. California was supposed to be warm. The OC, Baywatch, all the TV ads fail to tell you they are talking about Southern California. No one made this clear to me, or the rest of Britain, that not all of California is hot.

Vancouver to San Francisco Tour 2016 – A Cycle Tour by someone who’s never cycle toured before – Day 15 – Humbug Mountain State Park, OR to Brookings, OR

This was a big day. It was the last full day that I would have in Oregon. Tomorrow I would be heading to California. I was quite looking forward to this because California has this gloss about it which we certainly get from TV. With this in mind there was a lot of hype.
